Eerde International Boarding School

Small-scale, international and fully residential

Eerde brings school and boarding together in one small international community. Students are known personally, receive academic guidance and have support available throughout daily life.

Small-scale & personal

Small classes allow teachers to know their students well and provide individual attention.

International education

Students study in an international environment and prepare for further education in the Netherlands or abroad.

Boarding with guidance

Students live on campus with structure and support outside school hours, while gradually becoming more independent.

Living away from home is part of the education

For a student coming from Korea, choosing Eerde is not only a decision about school. It also means learning to live independently in another country, away from family and familiar surroundings.

That makes daily life, structure and personal support particularly important. At Eerde, boarding staff provide structure and support outside school hours. Students have organised study time and receive support with planning, wellbeing and the practical routines of living together.

The aim is not to take independence away from students, but to help them develop it gradually.

From Pre-Diploma to the IB Diploma

Eerde offers an international academic pathway for students preparing for further education and, ultimately, university study.

Pre-Diploma

Pre-Diploma — previously referred to as Pre-IB — prepares students for the academic and personal demands of the IB Diploma Programme. It gives students time to strengthen their academic foundations, become familiar with an international learning environment and further develop the study skills and independence needed for the next stage.

IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Programme is an internationally recognised university-preparatory programme. Students study a combination of subjects while developing skills in research, critical thinking, independent study and academic writing.

The appropriate entry point depends on the individual student’s previous education, academic level, English proficiency and readiness for the programme.

A school on a Dutch country estate

Eerde is located on a historic estate near the town of Ommen, surrounded by woodland and open space. School, boarding and much of daily student life come together in one relatively small community.

This is very different from studying in the centre of Amsterdam, Rotterdam or another large European city. For some students, that quieter setting is a real advantage: fewer distractions, familiar faces and a daily routine centred around school and the boarding community.

For others, especially those looking for an independent big-city experience, it may feel too quiet. That is something families should consider before deciding whether Eerde is the right environment.

Your child at Eerde?

Studying at a boarding school requires quite a lot from a young person. Living away from home, speaking English every day and sharing school and daily life with students from different countries can be exciting, but it also requires flexibility and a willingness to adapt.

Students do not have to be extremely independent from day one — that is partly what they learn at Eerde. But they should be ready to take more responsibility for themselves, get used to routines and become part of a relatively small community where people know each other well.

Eerde will probably feel most natural to students who appreciate space, nature and a quieter environment. For a teenager whose main image of studying abroad is Amsterdam, shopping streets and complete freedom after school, boarding at Eerde may feel rather different.

What matters is that the student is interested in the school and the boarding experience itself, rather than simply in the idea of “going to Europe”.

좋은 학교를 선택하는 것만큼, 우리 아이에게 맞는 환경을 선택하는 것도 중요합니다.

Eerde information meetings in autumn

I am planning free information meetings in Busan and Seoul for Korean families who would like to learn more about Eerde International Boarding School.

The meetings will provide an opportunity to learn more about boarding life, the academic pathway, admission and the practical questions families may have when considering an international boarding school.

Dates and locations will be announced once they have been confirmed. If you may be interested, you can already register your interest without obligation. I will then contact you when further details are available.
